The spas in the resort of Shangri-La in southern Thailand are set to be transformed into a couples spa.
The spa is being constructed by the resort’s owner and a group of Chinese investors.
Shangri La has been owned by the government since it was founded in the 1960s and has been open for guests since 2003.
The owners of the Shangri LA spa, called Huaqiao Spa, are the sons of the founder of the resort, Jiang Cheng, who died in 2010.
The Chinese company behind the project is building a spa on the ground floor of the hotel that will be connected to the spa on two floors, the Wall Street Journal reported.
It is expected to open in 2022.
The Shangri LAs owners said they have already hired 20 construction workers and will be ready to begin construction within three months, the WSJ reported.
Shangrin’s Shangri Spa has been around for more than a decade, but it is one of the few places in Thailand that offers both private and couples’ facilities.
The hotel and spa have become popular for those who have special needs or who want a break from the crowds at the resort.
Shangrilas owners say they hope to attract more visitors.
